Valpo Takes One of Three on Opening Day

Valparaiso opened its 2004 softball season on Saturday afternoon posting a 1-2 record in Terre Haute, Ind. at the Sycamore Classic

The Crusaders opened dropping a 6-5 decision to Indiana State in eight innings after surrendering a 4-0 lead.

In the middle game, Valpo fell 4-3 to Eastern Illinois, allowing a run in the sixth.

In the finale, Ashlee Blankenbaker threw a four-hitter as the Crusaders defeated Central Connecticut State 3-1.

Valpo will conclude the tournament on Sunday with games against Indiana State and Eastern Illinois.
