Crusaders Drop a Pair at #12 Oklahoma

Valparaiso's softball team dropped a doubleheader on Thursday evening, falling to #12 Oklahoma 7-2 and 9-2 in Norman, Okla.

In the opener, the Sooners scored four times in the first and Jamie Fox homered twice to lead the way. The Crusaders scored both runs in the top of the seventh as Mallory Gill hit a sacrafice fly to plate Emily Tkaczyk and Taylor Callahan also came around to score for the Brown and Gold on an error.

Chris Halstead started for Valpo and went 4 1/3 innings before Brittany Atteberry came in and tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Nicole Denes recorded the win for Oklahoma, allowing just two hits in the complete game effort.

In the nightcap, Oklahoma (23-4) scored six runs in the first three innings before Valpo tallied two in the sixth. Stacy Adamski led off with a homerun to left and Megan Carroll added an RBI double with two outs to plate Tkaczyk.

Valparaiso (0-8) will return to action on Friday as the Crusaders head to Wichita, Kan. for the Shocker Invitational. The Crusaders face Texas Tech at 10 a.m. and #18 Nebraska at 12:30 p.m.
