Rain Affects Crusader Softball Weekend Schedule

Leave it to Mother Nature to follow the Valparaiso softball team all the way to Tucson, Ariz., as the Crusaders' schedule at the Wildcat Invitational was altered Saturday due to wet weather.

Following a couple of rain delays early in the day, Valpo kicked off its first game of the day against Indiana nearly three hours after the scheduled first pitch. The teams battled through more delays, and with the Hoosiers leading the Crusaders 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning, the day's fifth stoppage for rain proved to be the one which ended the festivities for good. The game officially goes down as a suspended game, and while it will not be completed in Arizona, it could be completed from the stopping point at a later date – such as possibly next weekend at Boise State, where both Valpo and IU are playing in the Springhill Suites Invitational.

The Crusaders' second scheduled game on Saturday – against Longwood – was postponed and will close out tournament play at 4 p.m. CT on Sunday afternoon. Valpo is slated to take on UT-Arlington at noon as originally scheduled as well. Live stats and video for both games will be available at ValpoAthletics.com.
