Emhardt, McShane Named Valparaiso Athletes of the Month for March

Men's tennis freshman Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and softball junior Tarah McShane (Streamwood, Ill./St. Edward Central Catholic) have been named the Valparaiso athletic department's Athletes of the Month for the month of March.

Emhardt simply did not lose during March. The freshman went a perfect 7-0 in singles action, winning all seven of his matches in straight sets, including a pair of Horizon League contests. Emhardt now has won 13 consecutive singles matches. Then, in doubles play, he teamed up with Jeffrey Schorsch to win all eight of their matches during March as well, including two in league play. Emhardt's win with Schorsch over Wright State on March 29 gave Emhardt his 19th doubles victory of the year, setting a new program single-season record.

McShane led the Crusader softball team at the plate during the month of March, posting an on-base percentage of .453 and a slugging percentage of .659, as she tallied four doubles and three homers. McShane drove in 14 runs over her 16 games during March as well. The junior picked up All-Tournament Team honors at Hawai'i's Rainbow Wahine Classic to cap Valpo's spring break trip.
