Crusaders Win 19th Downing Chicago State

The Valparaiso University volleyball team moved within one win of 20 on the season as the Crusaders defeated Chicago State 26-30, 30-19, 30-20, 30-18 on Friday evening in Chicago, Ill.

Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) paced the Crusaders with ten kills and 14 blocks (10 solo), while Marion Hansen (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) and Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) each added 11 kills for the Brown and Gold.

Hansen also had 13 digs to complete her double-double, while Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) had a match-high 14 digs.

Andrea Rose led the Cougars with 18 kills and seven blocks, while Natalie Spelman tallied 12 digs. Shannon Georges added eight blocks.

The Crusaders held Chicago State (4-24, 1-10 Mid-Con) to a -.020 hitting percentage on the evening while outblocking the Cougars 21-18. Valpo had a 51-42 advantage in kills and a 65-61 dig advantage.

The Crusaders improved to 19-9 overall, 8-3 in the Mid-Continent Conference, and will look for their 20th win in their regular season finale on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Western Illinois for a 1 p.m. match.
