Crusaders Improve to 5-0 in Mid-Con Action

Valparaiso registered its fifth straight three-game sweep on Friday afternoon as the Crusaders downed Chicago State 31-29, 30-20, 30-17 in the Windy City to improve to 17-4 overall and 5-0 in the Mid-Continent Conference.

The Crusaders struggled hitting in game one as the Brown and Gold hit just .091 and squeaked out a victory. In games two and three, Valpo hit over .320 in each one (.367 and .323) to coast to victories.

Lauren Moulton (Elgin, Ill./Larkin H.S.) led the Crusaders with nine kills, a .500 hitting percentage, and four blocks on the evening. Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) and Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) each added nine kills as well. Mikos also had eight blocks.

Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) dished out 33 assists, while Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) tallied 13 digs.

Alison West led Chicago State (1-16, 0-4 Mid-Con) hitting .400 with 14 kills, while Andrea Rose added 11 kills. Stacey Cole had 12 digs for the Cougars.

Valpo hit .238 for the match, compared with Chicago State's .087. Valpo also outblocked the Cougars 16-6 for the match.

Valparaiso will return to action on Saturday evening when the Crusaders travel to Indianapolis to battle IUPUI. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
