Schmalz Named MVP of Popcorn Classic

Valparaiso University's Sarah Schmalz (Corona, Calif./Riverside Christian H.S.) has been named the Most Valuable Player of the 2003 Popcorn Classic after leading the Crusaders to the tournament title and the best start in Mid-Continent Conference history at 8-0.

Joining Schmalz on the All-Tournament Team were Jamie Bouyer and Emily Clark of Cleveland State, Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) and Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) of Valpo, Kylee Osborne of Indiana State and Kristi Robinson of East Tennessee State.

Schmalz hit .552 for the Brown and Gold in the tournament with 17 kills and ten blocks. She also added four service aces.
