Valpo Opens Mid-Con Play with Win at Centenary

Valparaiso's volleyball team welcomed Centenary to the Mid-Continent Conference on Friday evening with a 30-23, 30-23, 30-23 victory over the Ladies in Shreveport, La.

The Crusaders used ten kills each from Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) and Michelle Robinson (Bloomington, Ill./Normal H.S.) to record their seventh three-game sweep of the season.

Mikos hit just .190 on the evening, but added seven blocks for the Brown and Gold, while freshman Jessie Fox (Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.) added eight kills and hit .263. Cyndi Norman (Minooka, Ill./Minooka H.S.) dished out 23 assists in two games, while Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) contributed 15 assists.

Defensively, Bova led the Crusaders with 22 digs to record the double-double, while Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) registered 12 digs.

Ashley Templer led Centenary (5-12, 0-1 Mid-Con) with 11 kills and ten digs, while Kelley Heckman added ten kills and 18 digs.

Valpo hit .152 for the match and added 72 digs and ten blocks defensively, while the Ladies hit just .051 with 67 digs and three blocks.

Valparaiso (13-4, 1-0) will travel to Tulsa, Okla. on Saturday evening for a 7 p.m. match with Oral Roberts, looking to end the Golden Eagles 46-match home win streak against conference opponents.
