Valpo Defeats Hofstra in Four

Three players recorded double-doubles Saturday morning as Valparaiso defeated Hofstra 31-29, 30-24, 29-31, 30-24 at the Kentucky Conference Challenge held in Lexington, Ky.

Amy Palash (Winfield, Ill./Saint Francis H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold with 18 kills and 14 digs while Jessi Novak (Antigo, Wis./Antigo H.S.) added 15 kills and 15 digs. Katie Bova (Milwaukee, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels H.S.) added 11 digs and dished out 56 assists in the victory for the Crusaders.

Liz Mikos (Dundee, Ill./Jacobs H.S.) added 15 kills, hit .323 and add a match-high six blocks to help secure the victory. Sara Silcox (Michigan City, Ind./Michigan City H.S.) chipped in a match-high 29 digs as well.

Tessa Sphar led Hofstra (4-4) with 15 kills and ten digs, while Julie Tatar added 11 kills and 16 digs.

Valpo registered 77 kills in the match, 14 more than the Pride, and also recorded eight service aces.

Valparaiso (5-2) will conclude tournament play later this afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. CDT match against Indiana State.
