Valpo Heads to Horizon League Championship as Fourth Seed

The Valparaiso volleyball team will head to the 2011 Horizon League Championship in Milwaukee, Wis. next weekend as the fourth seed, opening tournament play in a quarterfinal against fifth-seeded UIC at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Valparaiso enters the tournament at 19-13 overall and went 9-7 in Horizon League play this year.  The Flames are 14-14 overall and went 7-9 in league action.  Valpo swept both meetings in 2011 against UIC, winning 25-21, 25-19, 25-13 at the ARC on Sept. 14 and 25-16, 25-13, 25-21 in Chicago on Oct. 14.

The other quarterfinal features third-seeded Butler against sixth-seeded Green Bay.  The lowest remaining seed from Friday’s action takes on host and top-seeded Milwaukee Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., while the highest remaining seed faces second-seeded Cleveland State at 5 p.m.  The league title match is slated for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.  Live video through the Horizon League Network and live stats will be available for all of Valpo’s matches at www.valpoathletics.com.
