The Valparaiso University women’s basketball team (14-15, 9-9 Horizon) will head to Milwaukee, Wis. on Wednesday evening for the Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals to battle the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (16-13, 11-7). The Crusaders, the tournament’s sixth seed, and Panthers, the number three seed, will tip off at 7 p.m. CDT at the Klotsche Center on the UWM campus.
Milwaukee won both meetings during the regular season, 68-62 on January 17 at the Athletics-Recreation Center and 76-70 on February 16 in Milwaukee.
The tournament opens on Monday with first round games. Tenth-seeded Detroit (6-23, 3-15) will head to number seven seed Youngstown State (13-16, 8-10) and the nine seed, Loyola (7-22, 5-13), will head to eighth seeded UIC (10-19, 6-12).
Other quarterfinal matchups on Wednesday include the UIC-Loyola winner at top-seeded Green Bay (25-4, 17-1), #5 Butler (20-9, 10-8) at #4 Cleveland State (16-13, 10-8), and the Youngstown State-Detroit winner heading to second-seeded Wright State (14-15, 11-7).
The semifinals and championship will take place at the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals on Friday, March 14 and Sunday, March 16. The Valpo-Milwaukee winner will face the YSU-Detroit-WSU winner.
