Hammel Earns Mid-Con Player of the Week Honors

Valparaiso University's Suzie Hammel (Lafayette, Ind./Lebanon H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Week after leading the Crusaders to a pair of victories last week to propel the Brown and Gold into second place in the Mid-Continent Conference standings.

The junior guard averaged 20.5 points per game in victories over UMKC and Oral Roberts, while adding 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest.

Against UMKC, Hammel, who had scored 17 total points in her previous four games, tallied 22, including a 10-for-12 performance from the free throw line. She also grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists, and recorded three steals.

In Monday's victory over Oral Roberts, Hammel made 6-of-9 three-point attempts on her way to a game-high 19 points in just 19 minutes of action.
