Myers Becomes Second Straight Crusader to Earn Player of the Week Honors

Tuesday, November 29, 2005

Valparaiso University's Carrie Myers (Stickleyville, Va./Lee H.S.) has been named a Mid-Continent Conference co-Player of the Week after helping lead the Crusaders to a second place finish at the National City Bank Xavier Invitational last weekend.

Myers averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for the Brown and Gold in an overtime win over Kent State and a lost to the host Musketeers. The junior scored a season-high 23 points, including six three-pointers, while grabbing a career-best eight rebounds against Kent State. Her three-pointer with 3.8 seconds remaining capped Valpo's 17-point second half comeback to force overtime. In the loss to Xavier, Myers led Valpo with 16 points while adding three rebounds and two assists.

Myers is the second straight player from Valpo to earn the honor as Betsy Rietema (Grand Rapids, Mich./Christian H.S.) earned the award last week. Myers shares co-Player of the Week accolades with Oakland's Nicole Piggot.
