Valparaiso’s third annual NCAA Pink Zone game will take place this Saturday as the Crusader host UIC at the Athletics-Recreation Center. Tip-off is set for 11:05 a.m. against the Flames.
The initiative, created by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), began in 2007 as a unified effort to raise awareness for breast cancer through women’s basketball, both on campuses and in communities. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game in support of the initiative.
The women’s basketball team will be wearing special pink t-shirts during pregame warm-ups, and there will be giveaways for the first 200 fans in attendance. In addition, t-shirts and pink ribbons will be available to purchase at the game.
Female breast cancer survivors will be honored prior to the game with the game ball presentation. Any Survivors interested in participating may call 219.464.6931 or e-mail Renee' Turpa at pdturpa@comcast.net or Maggie Acuna at elizabeth.acuna@valpo.edu. Survivors are asked to be at the ARC by 10:30a.m. and asked to provide a t-shirt size when contacting Renee’ or Maggie regarding participation in the event.
