Valparaiso University head basketball coach Keith Freeman has announced Christy Smith has resigned her position as a Crusader assistant coach to take a similar position at Purdue University.

Smith spent three seasons as an assistant on the Crusader bench, assisted with scouting, and also served as the team’s recruiting coordinator.

“I am excited for her opportunity,” Freeman said.  “I really appreciate her service to Valpo basketball over the past few years and wish her much success.”

A search for Smith’s replacement will begin immediately while also looking for a new graduate assistant for the 2011-2012 season.
