For the second time this season, Valparaiso junior Charae Richardson (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson [Vincennes]) has been named Horizon League Newcomer of the Week. Richardson earned the honors for helping the Crusaders beat Northern Illinois 54-49 on Saturday.

Richardson scored a career-best 16 points against the Huskies. She was 2-of-3 from behind the arc and also finished 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Richardson pulled down six rebounds.

She made a 3-pointer to put Valparaiso up 43-38 with 10:19 to play, and she drilled another trey at the 8:40 mark to make the lead 46-40.

Richardson was also named HL Newcomer of the Week on Dec. 10.

Richardson and the rest of the Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Jan. 12, when Valparaiso hosts Youngstown State to open Horizon League play at 1:35 p.m.
