The Horizon League announced Valparaiso freshman Jasmyn Walker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) as its Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon. The honor is the forward's first in a Crusader uniform.
Walker averaged 18 points and six boards in a pair of games last week. She scored a career-high 20 points on Tuesday evening in Valpo's 109-81 victory over Purdue-Calumet. In addition to converting six of eight free throw attempts, Walker shot an impressive 7-for-8 from the floor. For an encore, Walker was 6-of-12 from the field and 4-for-5 from the charity stripe Saturday versus Stetson. She also posted eight rebounds, three steals, and a blocked shot.
Currently, Walker is the Crusaders' leading rebounder with 6.6 boards per game.
This week's award is the third received by a Valparaiso rookie this season. Teammate Dani Franklin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/George Washington) was named Horizon League Freshman of the Week on November 24th and December 15th.
