The Valparaiso University Department of Athletics has announced a trio of hires, including the addition of Gabe Miller as Associate Director of Sports Performance. Miller will serve as the strength and conditioning coach for the football and women’s basketball programs.

Valpo women’s basketball head coach Mary Evans announced today the addition of transfer Emma Tecca to the Beacon program. Tecca, a 5-10 guard from Tallmadge, Ohio, spent the last three years at Akron.

Olivia Sims Signs With Women’s Basketball Program
Valpo women’s basketball head coach Mary Evans announced today that Olivia Sims, a 5-9 guard from Holland, Ohio, has signed with the Beacons and will join the program for the 2022-23 season. Sims will transfer to Valpo after spending her freshman season at Oakland and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Frederick, Brown, White Earn MVC Postseason Honors
A trio of Valpo women’s basketball players received postseason recognition from the Missouri Valley Conference Wednesday as the MVC unveiled its All-Conference Teams, highlighted by the selection of Shay Frederick (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) as a First Team All-MVC choice for the second consecutive season. Olivia Brown (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids [St. Bonaventure]) represented Valpo on the All-Newcomer Team, while Grace White (Redby, Minn./Red Lake [Denver]) claimed a spot on the All-Defensive Team.

Women's Basketball Set for Hoops in the Heartland
After finishing in a tie for sixth place in the MVC regular season standings, the Valpo women’s basketball team earned the sixth seed for Hoops in the Heartland and the corresponding bye into the tournament quarterfinals. The Beacons will have to win three games over three days to capture the tournament crown, beginning with a Friday night quarterfinal matchup against third-seeded UNI.

Valpo Battles Back For Key Win at Indiana State
It might have been the grittiest performance of the year from the Valpo women’s basketball team, and it came in the biggest game of the year to date, as the Beacons rallied after trailing by as many as 13 and survived a battle which featured 11 ties and five lead changes to take down Indiana State Sunday afternoon in Terre Haute, 74-69. The win not only avenged a 20-point loss last month at the ARC to the Sycamores, it moved Valpo three wins clear of Indiana State in the MVC standings.

Women’s Basketball Takes Down Evansville in OT Friday
Maybe it was only appropriate, given that the normal five-hour bus trip the day before had taken nearly 12 hours to complete, that Friday’s Valpo women’s basketball game at Evansville would take a little longer than normal to decide a victor. After 40 minutes proved to not be enough, the Beacons’ defense locked down in overtime, holding the Purple Aces scoreless over the last three and a half minutes as Valpo claimed a key 75-70 victory.

Women’s Basketball Captures Win Over Bradley in High-Scoring Duel
The Valpo women’s basketball team has made a habit of being able to rally from double-digit deficits to earn wins, and Thursday evening at the ARC was no difference, as the Beacons overcame a 12-point first-half Bradley lead and held off the Braves down the stretch to pick up an 86-84 victory and move back to .500 in MVC play. Shay Frederick (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) set a new career best with 11 assists, recorded the first double-double of her career and moved into second place in program history in career assists.

Women’s Basketball Pulls Off Thrilling Fourth-Quarter Comeback Friday
The Valpo women’s basketball team picked up its first Missouri Valley Conference victory of the 2021-22 season in thrilling fashion Friday evening at the ARC over visiting UNI, overcoming a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter thanks to stout defense and rebounding and getting the game-winning 3-point play from Shay Frederick (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) with 51 seconds to play to edge the Panthers, 60-58. Caitlin Morrison (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) broke Valpo career records for both games played and games started when she stepped into the center circle for the tip-off on Friday.

The Valpo women’s basketball team kicks off the 2021-22 season on Wednesday evening at the ARC when it hosts the RedHawks of Miami University to town. The game is the first of four against MAC opposition in the non-conference for the Beacons.

Valpo Women Picked Sixth in MVC Preseason Poll
The Valpo women’s basketball team has been picked to finish in sixth place in the Missouri Valley Conference for the 2021-22 season, according to preseason polling of the conference’s coaches, sports information directors and media members. Valpo was just one point shy of fifth place in the final results.

Valpo Announces 2021-22 Women’s Basketball Schedule
Valpo women’s basketball head coach Mary Evans unveiled her program’s schedule for the upcoming 2021-22 season this afternoon. Five games against teams which finished in the top 100 of the NCAA NET ranking last season — including a visit to the ARC from Notre Dame — highlight the nonconference slate and will help prepare the Beacons for the always-challenging Missouri Valley Conference schedule, which was released by the conference office today.

Dominique Duck Joins Valpo Women’s Basketball Coaching Staff
Valpo women’s basketball head coach Mary Evans announced today that Dominique Duck has joined the program as an assistant coach. Duck comes to Valpo after spending the last five seasons on staff at Morehead State, including the last three as associate head coach.
