Entering its inaugural season of competition, the Valparaiso women’s bowling team is ranked 20th in the nation in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) 2009-2010 preseason poll, as released on Saturday.

“I truly appreciate the respect the other NCAA coaches have shown our program in selecting us to the top-20 for the pre-season poll,” said Crusader head coach Stephen Anthony.  “It is quite an honor to be mentioned with the top programs in the country. I view this as an opportunity and responsibility to represent Valparaiso University at a level that others in the bowling community expect of us. I am looking forward to our first tournament and the opportunity our team has to represent Valpo; an opportunity to start working towards our goals and reach our potential.”

The Crusaders totaled 30 points from among the 19 ballots to claim 20th place in the opening poll.  Valpo will open the 2009-2010 season this weekend, traveling to Missouri to take part in the Greater Ozark Open, hosted by 2009 national runners-up University of Central Missouri.
