Valparaiso University director of athletics Mark LaBarbera has announced that Shon Washington has submitted his resignation as the head bowling coach at Valparaiso University.

“We are grateful for the hard work that Shon has put in over the last two years with our bowling program,” said LaBarbera.  “His efforts have moved our program ahead and positioned it as one of the nation’s top bowling programs.  We are sad to see him leave but wish him well in his future endeavors.  Meanwhile, we remain committed to building a championship bowling program here at Valparaiso.”

Washington served as the Crusaders’ head bowling coach for the second season in program history in 2010-2011, guiding Valpo to a 52-48 record.  The Crusaders were ranked as high as #11 in the NTCA Coaches Poll during the season and closed the year ranked 14th nationally.  Washington was an assistant coach in the program’s inaugural season, helping lead the Crusaders to the #10 spot nationally and a 68-46 record.

A search will begin immediately for Washington’s replacement.
