Bowling Continues Action at New Jersey Jamboree

The #14 Valparaiso bowling team continued its season-opening tournament on Saturday, competing on the second of three days of action at the New Jersey Jamboree in Elmwood Park, N.J.

Valpo concluded the second day of tournament play, contested in the traditional team format, in 12th place out of the 19 competing squads. Arkansas State leads the team standings through two days.

The Crusaders opened Saturday's action without an opponent, drawing the bye in the first match of the day, and rolled a score of 749, led by a 183 from freshman Carly Larson (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillvlle) in her first collegiate tournament. Valpo then dropped a 960-918 decision to #2 Vanderbilt despite a 215 from junior Sadie Jasinski (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and a 200 by sophomore Tedra Tado (Des Plaines, Ill./Elk Grove).

It was an even narrower defeat for Valpo in its next matchup, as the Crusaders fell by just three pins to #16 LIU Brooklyn, 960-957. The balanced effort saw all five bowlers roll at least a 178, led by an even 200 by Larson. Valpo followed by notching one in the win column against Salem International, 958-783, as Larson again paced the Crusaders with a 218 and Tado rolled her second 200 of the day.

Another close call went against Valpo versus #12 Kutztown, as the Crusaders were on the wrong end of a 942-920 score with Jasinski leading the way with a 221, the team's high game of the day. Valpo closed out the day by falling 908-798 to #5 Maryland Eastern Shore.

Valparaiso (5-5) closes out the New Jersey Jamboree on Sunday with bracket play.
