Bowling Closes Out 2013-14 Campaign Sunday
Alyssa Alvarez finished among the single-season top-10 for scoring average.

The #14 Valparaiso bowling team closed out its 2013-14 season on Sunday with the final day of competition at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Nashville, Tenn.

The Crusaders finished the tournament in 10th place out of the 30 competing teams, falling in each of their three matches Sunday against teams ranked among the nation’s top-seven squads.  Valpo dropped 4-1 decisions to #2 Nebraska and #5 Central Missouri before falling 4-0 to #7 Sam Houston State.

This year’s Valparaiso (59-64) squad placed two individuals in the program’s single-season top-10 for scoring average.  Freshman Carly Larson (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville) averaged a 191.4 in traditional action this season, good for eighth in the Crusaders’ record book, while redshirt junior Alyssa Alvarez (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) posted a 190.9 average, which ranks ninth all-time.  In addition, the team’s baker match average of 186.8 was the second-best baker average in the program’s five seasons.
