Crusaders Continue Action From UW-Whitewater

The #17 Valparaiso University bowling team continued action at UW-Whitewater’s Warhawk Invitational on Saturday, the second day of the three-day tournament.

The Crusaders finished Saturday’s action with 9,236 total pins over the first two days of competition. Valpo will enter Sunday’s bracket play seeded eighth in the 10-team field.

Valpo opened Saturday’s competition, contested in the traditional team format, against #20 Adelphi and edged out a 939-932 victory, led by a 211 game from junior Alyssa Meade (Chesterfield, Mich./L’Anse Creuse North). Fellow junior Savannah Carr (Buckeye, Ariz./Youngker) rolled a 203 in the Crusaders’ next match, but it wasn’t enough as Valpo fell 911-854 against #25 Elmhurst.

A matchup with host #7 UW-Whitewater was next in the cards for the Crusaders, but Valpo dropped an 869-828 decision despite a game of 207 from Carr. The Crusaders rolled their best team game of the day in the next matchup against #5 Central Missouri as freshman Kendra Tryniski (Fulton, N.Y./Fulton) recorded a 220 game and senior Katherine Sulaitis (St. Charles, Ill./East) posted a 208, but it wouldn’t be enough as Valpo fell 1139-977 to the Jennies.

Carr closed out a day in which she averaged a 200.8 over the five games with a 213 effort in Valpo’s final match of the day, while Sulaitis registered a 203 in the finale for back-to-back 200+ games , but the Crusaders came up just short against #21 Tulane, 990-961.

Valparaiso (36-49) closes out the Warhawk Invitational on Sunday with bracket play.
