Valpo Bowling Closes Warhawk Classic Sunday

The Valpo bowling team capped a stretch of four tournaments in four weekends with two more victories on the final day of competition Sunday at the Warhawk Classic in Madison, Wis., finishing the tournament in sixth place.

How It Happened

  • Sunday’s action began with the final traditional team match of the tournament, an 851-803 win for Valpo over Marian. Freshman Noelle Doody (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) led the way in the win with a 189 game.
  • With the final traditional match came the finalization of the individual standings. Junior Sam Perez (Aurora, Ill./Oswego East) led Valpo over the six traditional matches with a 193.2 average, good for 11th in the tournament field.
  • With seeds set for bracket play following the last traditional match, Valpo was the fifth seed, paired up against eighth-seeded Upper Iowa in the first bracket match, contested in the best-of-seven baker format. After dropping the first game, Valpo rallied with four consecutive wins – capped by a 205 effort in game five – to earn a 4-1 victory.
  • The finale against Tusculum would not go Valpo’s way. Tusculum took the first three games, and while Valpo posted a 234 game four to extend the match, it would eventually fall by a 4-1 final to finish out in sixth place.

Next Up

Valpo (25-25) now has a two-month break from competition, as the Brown and Gold won’t return to tournament action until Jan. 10-12 at the Stormin’ Blue and Gold Classic in Las Vegas.
