The Valpo bowling team kicked off action at the three-day Columbia 300 Saints Invitational on Friday from Chesterfield, Mo., hosted by Maryville.

How It Happened

• Valpo opened Friday’s competition, contested in the five-game baker format, against #12 Central Missouri, dropping a 1010-892 decision.
• The Brown and Gold picked up their lone win of the day in the second match, earning an 885-835 victory over Upper Iowa.
• With an odd number of teams in the field, Valpo was presented with a bye in the third match slot and rolled a 924.
• Valpo closed out the day with defeats against host #15 Maryville (1001-824) and #1 McKendree (1070-863).
• The Crusaders tallied 4,388 pins in the first day of action, good for 13^th place in the 19-team field.
