Bowling Closes Out Railsplitter Classic Sunday

The #19 Valpo bowling team closed out action from the Railsplitter Classic in Harrogate, Tenn. on Sunday with a trio of best-of-seven baker matches in bracket play.

How It Happened

  • Valpo opened bracket play Sunday versus Mercyhurst, jumping out to a 1-0 lead behind a 220 game.
  • The Brown and Gold followed with a 203, but were thwarted by a 212 from Mercyhurst. The two teams tied in game three to remain knotted up at 1-1-1 before Mercyhurst took each of the final three games to earn a 4-1-1 win.
  • The loss dropped Valpo into a matchup with Belmont Abbey. Valpo took three of the first four games, and despite dropping a tight game five, 217-210, it would close out a 4-2 victory with a 199 in game six.
  • The tournament closed for Valpo versus #23 Kentucky Wesleyan to decide fifth place. With the two teams tied at two games apiece, a high-level game five gave KWU control, as it prevailed in that game 220-201 and then took game six to close out a 4-2 final and send Valpo to a sixth-place tournament finish.

Next Up
