Shon Washington was promoted to head coach of the Crusader bowling program on May 14, 2010 after serving as an assistant for the program's inaugural season. Washington arrived at Valparaiso
having had much success as a coach both on the high school and
collegiate levels.
Prior to Valpo, Washington had spent four years as the head women’s bowling
coach at Calumet College of St. Joseph in Hammond, Ind. Leading the
program from its inception, Washington led the Crimson Wave to the
United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships in
just its second season and ended the 2007-2008 season ranked 14th nationally. He
led Cal College to a second straight appearance in the Team
Championships in 2008-2009 as well.
Washington also previously worked the last eight years as the head girls
bowling coach at Lake Central H.S. in St. John, Ind. A two-time
Post-Tribune Coach of the Year with the Lady Indians, Washington guided
Lake Central to three state titles in just eight seasons of existence,
winning in 2003, 2007 and 2009. Under his watch, the Lady Indians also
captured two semi-state, three regional, four sectional and six
conference titles.
An excellent teacher of the game, Washington currently holds his USBC Silver Coaching Certification. Also an accomplished bowler himself, he has
spent 14 years as a PBA member and regional tour pro.
