Valpo Fifth at Indiana Intercollegiates

The Valparaiso University women's cross country team finished in fifth place out of 22 teams on Friday afternoon at the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships held in Terre Haute, Ind.

The Crusaders tallied 178 points on the afternoon, trailing champion Indiana, which tallied 36 points. Purdue finished in second place, followed by Ball State, Indiana State, and the Crusaders.

Elizabeth Whiting (Parma, Mich./Western H.S.) led the Brown and Gold in 26th place with a time of 18:59.2. Rachel Nelson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit H.S.) finished four places behind Whiting with a time of 19:05.0, while Amanda Lee (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon H.S.) was third for the Cruasders with a time of 19:11.2 in 36th place.

Danielle Nunnelly (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) was the fourth Crusader across the finish line, in 40th place overall with a time of 19:19.2. Heidi Nathan (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford H.S.) rounded out the Valpo scorers with a 46th place effort in a time of 19:29.7.

Valpo will return to action on October 3 when the Crusaders travel to the Notre Dame Invitational for a 2 p.m. meet.
