Cross Country Makes Strong Showing at Friendship Invitational

Junior Dan Walters (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) led the Valpo men's cross country team to a 4th-place finish with a 26:54.4 time in the Cedarville Friendship Invitational 8K on Saturday morning while Liz Bloy (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) crossed the line at 19:35.3 in the women's 5K as she guided the Crusaders to a 9th-place result.

Adam Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University) was right on his classmates' heels as he covered the course in 27:09. Max Morello (Plano, Ill./Plano) turned in a 27:25.4 finish while junior Jesse Greenhagen (Waverly, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) stopped the clock at 27:28.2. Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University) rounded out the Valpo top five with his 27:46.9 effort. 

Milwaukee claimed first place on the men's side while Ashland and Cedarville registered podium finishes.

Bloy was the first Crusader to finish first for the second consecutive meet. Her 19:35.3 time was good for 31st place. 

Sophomore Kim Heiny (Burnettsville, Ind./Twin Lakes) posted a 20:19.9 5K time while senior Dezzarae Arce (Orland Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) crossed the finish line at 20:57.5. Sophia Robinson (Downers Grove, Ill./South) turned in a 21:26.1 result while Tori Tamburrino (West Dundee, Ill./Jacobs) registered a 21:58.7 time.

Coming in at 9th place, Valpo finished ahead of Trevecca Nazarene, Cumberlands, and Urbana. 

The teams will have a couple weeks off to prepare for the Notre Dame Invite on Friday, Oct. 2nd. The meet is set to begin at 2:00 pm ET/1:00 pm CT.
