Valparaiso’s women’s golf team finished second in a triangular match on Sunday against Chicago State and Green Bay at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind.

Chicago State won the event shooting 313 on the 6,197-yard, par-72 layout.  The Crusaders posted a 328 total while the Phoenix finished at 335.

Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold, finishing second overall with a five-over par round of 77.  She finished one shot behind Brianna Hickman of Chicago State.  Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Mich./Irondale H.S.) added an 80 for Valpo to finish second for the team.

“Kelly and Michelle played well today,” head coach Mike Higdon said.  “That has been the case for the last two tournament rounds, having two good scores.  In order for us to compete and get back to our second place finish from earlier in the season, we need four of the five to be playing well.  I am confident we will go a lot lower tomorrow (Monday).  It was tough as we played today with four of our women never seeing the course before.”

Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) carded an 85.  Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) and Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) rounded out the lineup shooting 86 and 87 respectively.

Valparaiso will remain at Eagle Creek on Monday and Tuesday for the Butler Fall Invitational.  The shotgun start begins at 7:30 a.m. CDT each day.
