Valparaiso University sits in 10th place at the midway point of the BGSU Falcon Invitational at the Stone Ridge Golf Course in Bowling Green, Ohio after shooting a team total of 352 on a rainy Saturday.
The Crusaders are seven strokes behind ninth place Chicago State and nine shots ahead of 11th place Cleveland State heading into Sunday’s final round. Western Michigan leads the team standings after shooting 316, holding a one shot advantage over Akron.
Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) led the way for the Brown and Gold in round one, carding an 85 over the 5,822-yard, par 72 layout. The freshman is tied for 28th overall. Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) added an 88 for the Crusaders while Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) posted an 89. Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) shot 90 while Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) posted a 99 to round out the Valpo lineup.
Western Michigan’s Britney Hamilton leads the individual standings after posting a two-over par 74, two strokes ahead of Youngstown State’s Kathryn Rogner.
Valparaiso will return to action on Sunday morning for the final round of the tournament. The action begins at 8 a.m. CDT.
