Pfaender, Crusaders Finish Second at Loyola
Erika Pfaender finished second at the Loyola Invitational.

Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) fired a final round 80 to finish in second place individually on Sunday afternoon at the Loyola Invitational, and helped lead Valparaiso to a second place finish as a team as well at the Golf Club of Illinois in Algonquin, Ill.

Playing on a day when the wind chill was below 40 degrees, the Crusaders carded a final round 335 as a team to finish at 661, seven strokes behind champion and tournament host Loyola (Chicago).  Valpo finished 27 strokes in front of third place UIC.

Pfaender turned in the second best round two score of the day, an 80, on the 5,911-yard, par-71 layout.  She finished in second place overall with a two-round total of 163, one shot ahead of teammate Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.).  Kleckner tied for third at 164 after shooting a second round 86.

Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) carded an 82 on Sunday to finish at 165, tying for sixth place overall.  Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) posted a final round 90 to finish at 172 while Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) shot 87 to post 176 for 36 holes.

Valparaiso will return to action Friday through Sunday at the 2012 Horizon League Golf Championships.  This year’s event is being held in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.  Friday’s first round will begin at 6:30 a.m. CDT.
