Tuesday, July 02, 2013

Valparaiso golfers Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) and Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) have been named All-American Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

The pair of Crusaders both received the honor for the second consecutive year, and were among 644 collegiate golfers from Division I, II and III to be recognized. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics, including maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

Kleckner was an All-Horizon League selection for the Crusaders in 2012-2013, posting a scoring average of 80.0, good for second on the team. She earned three top-ten finishes on the season, including a victory in the Crusader Spring Invitational and a top-five placing at the Dayton Fall Invitational. Kleckner will enter her senior year with a 3.968 cumulative GPA as a mathematics and secondary education double major.

Pfaender ranked third among Valpo golfers last season with an 82.3 scoring average, fifth-best in a single season in program history. She earned a top-five finish this spring at the Crusader Spring Invitational. Pfaender owns a 3.618 cumulative GPA as a psychology and communication double major.
