Strong Performances Highlight Day One at IPFW

Three Crusaders posted top-14 scores as the Valparaiso women's golf team finished day one in fourth place at the IPFW Spring Classic, held at Chestnut Hills G.C. in Fort Wayne, Ind.

 

Valpo posted a team score of 311 on Sunday, the fourth-best team single-round score of the season and second-best among the five Horizon League schools at the event. Indianapolis and Ferris State closed the opening round tied for the team lead at 300, while two golfers shot an even-par 72 to pace the individual standings.

 

Senior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) led the Crusaders on Sunday, shooting a round of 74 to end the day two shots off the lead, in a tie for fifth place in the 66-golfer field. Fellow seniors Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) and Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) posted matching scores of 76 to finish the first round tied for 14th position.

 

Senior Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) shot an opening-round 85 on Sunday and enters Monday in 56th place. Senior Alyssa Cameron (Warsaw, Ind./Warsaw) rounded out the Crusader contingent with a round of 93 over the opening 18 holes.

 

Valparaiso finishes out action from Fort Wayne on Monday.
