Valparaiso’s women’s golf team shot 393 on day one of the Falcon Invitational and sit in 10th place after 18 holes at the Falcon Invitational on Saturday held at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.

The Crusaders are 34 shots behind ninth place Cleveland State and hold a 23 shot advantage over Niagara heading into the final 18 holes.

“We played okay today considering the tough conditions,” assistant coach Bryan Bennett said.  “The girls were not completely satisfied though and our goal is to take 12-15 shots off our team score tomorrow.  I think we can do that.”

Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) led the Crusaders on day one shooting a 92 on the 5,901-yard, par-72 layout.  She is tied for 52nd overall heading into the final round.

Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) carded a 96 while Kathleen Cooper (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) shot 98 in cold, windy conditions.  Sarah Al-Momar (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) added a 107 to round out the scoring for the Crusaders.  Kadie Savoree (Paris, Ill./Paris H.S.) also returned to the Valpo lineup after missing most of the spring with an injury.

Toledo holds the team lead at 317 while the Rockets’ Marguerite Johnson holds the individual lead at three-over par 75.

Valparaiso will finish up the tournament on Sunday with the final 18 holes.  The first tee time is set for 8 a.m. CDT with Valpo going off of the number 10 tee from 8:10-8:50 a.m. CDT.
