Valparaiso’s women’s golf team improved its team score by 15 strokes over the opening round to move into a tie for 11th place on Tuesday as the Crusaders concluded play at the Butler Fall Invitational held at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Crusaders shot a school record 317 over the 6,303-yard, par-72 layout to finish the event at 649 and in a tie with Indiana State.  Bradley won the team title at 602.

“We accomplished a little of what we wanted today,” head coach Mike Higdon said.  “It was a solid day.  We wanted to see how many teams we could be today alone and finished ahead of six others.”

Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) posted a school-record round of 76 to lead the way for the Brown and Gold on the final day.  She bettered the old mark of 77 set by several of her teammates already this season.  Davy finished the tournament second for Valpo at 163.

“Brianna had a break out round with her 76,” Higdon added.  “She and Annie really played well today.”

Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso H.S.) carded a 77 on the final day and concluded the tournament as Valpo’s top finisher in a tie of 30th place with her two round total of 160.

Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) shot 80 on Tuesday to finish at 167, one shot behind Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.), who turned in an 84 on day two.  Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) finished at 171 after shooting 91.

Valparaiso will take next week off and return to the course for the final time this spring October 18-19 at the Dayton Fall Invitational held in Kettering, Ohio.
