Valparaiso University’s women’s golf team wrapped up its 2011-2012 season on Sunday morning with a seventh place finish at the Horizon League Golf Championships held at the Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
The Crusaders shot a final round 350 to finish at 1058 for the tournament, 13 shots ahead of eighth p lace UIC. Butler won the team title at 984, a 25-shot victory over Detroit and Loyola (Chicago). Cleveland State was fourth (1015) while Youngstown State placed fifth with a total of 1024. Green Bay was sixth, 20 strokes ahead of Valpo.
Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale H.S.) led Valpo with a final round 84 on the 5,877-yard, par-73 layout. The sophomore finished 17th overall at 257 for the 54-hole event.
Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd H.S.) and Jessica O’Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) both carded rounds of 85 on Sunday. Voigt finished at 261, second in the Crusader lineup, while O’Brien posted 276 for the weekend.
Brianna Davy (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central H.S.) shot 96 in her final round to finish the tournament at 264.
Detroit’s Lindsey Lammers won the individual title in a one hole playoff against Loyola’s Ann Vrdolak. Both players finished regulation at 238.
