Valpo Tenth After Day One at Butler

The Valparaiso women's golf team finished the opening round of the Butler Fall Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind. in 10th place on Monday.

The Crusaders shot a 341 as a team on Monday to hit the halfway point of the 11-team event in 10th position. Bowling Green leads the team standings with an opening-round 300, while the Falcons' Shelby Wilson paces the individual standings, shooting a 71 on day one.

Senior Jessica O'Brien (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and junior Erika Pfaender (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) tied for the Crusaders' best round to open tournament action, posting matching 84s, good for a tie for 41st place.  Junior Kelly Voigt (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) was one stroke back of her pair of teammates and enters Tuesday in a tie for 48th after an opening 85.

Redshirt junior Annie Nolan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) shot an 88 in Monday's opening round to end the day in a tie for 55th place. Junior Michelle Kleckner (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) rounded out the Crusader lineup with an 89 in round one to sit in 60th place.

The final 18 holes of the tournament are scheduled to be played starting Tuesday morning.
