Shrum Tabbed Horizon League Golfer of the Week

Valparaiso freshman Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) was named the Horizon League Women's Golfer of the Week this afternoon after leading the Crusaders earlier this week at the Butler Fall Invitational.

Shrum started out the 36-hole tournament at Highland C.C. with an opening-round 79 on Monday. Then, on Tuesday, the rookie improved by four strokes, shooting a 75 to close the tournament at 154, good for a tie for sixth place. Her score of 154 matched the fifth-lowest 36-hole score in program history, while she led Valpo as the Crusaders finished tied with UIC and Green Bay, despite splitting their squad between two tournaments.

Shrum becomes the second Crusader to earn Golfer of the Week honors from the league office this season, joining senior Michelle Kleckner. Valpo returns to action early next week at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at Rivercut G.C. in Springfield, Mo.
