Pair of Signees Join Valpo Women's Golf Program

Valparaiso women's golf head coach Mat Blair announced that a pair of local products, Kiana Jongsma and Katie Willenbrink, signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period to join the Crusader women's golf program as freshmen for the 2014-15 season.

Jongsma comes to Valpo from Lake Central H.S. A long hitter, Jongsma shot the best round of her career in the final round of states this year as a senior to finish tied for 11th individually at 151. That finish came one year after she earned a 32nd place finish at the state tournament. Jongsma also helped lead Lake Central as the Indians qualified for the state tournament this fall as a team, finishing in 10th place.

Willenbrink joins the Crusader program after four strong seasons at Penn H.S. A multiple-time First Team All-Conference honoree, Willenbrink helped the Kingsmen to four conference, regional and sectional championships over her career. She helped to lead the Penn program to the #1 ranking in the state this year and a runner-up finish at the state tournament. Willenbrink finished 22nd individually at states after finishing just one stroke shy of medalist honors at the regional tournament.

"We are extremely excited to have both Katie and Kiana join our family," said Blair. "They both bring a strong competitive background to Valpo. Katie played for a powerhouse in Penn and knows how to get it done on the golf course. Kiana has a lot of length, which I think will be more of an advantage for her in college, and I believe her best golf is still in front of her."
