Kim Leads Crusaders on Day One of Cardinal Classic

The Valparaiso women’s golf team finished round one of the two-day Cardinal Classic, hosted by Ball State at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind.

Sophomore Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd) led the Crusaders with a seven-over 79 for the day, including a birdie on the ninth hole. She ended the day in a tie for 34th place and just one shot off her season-best 18-hole round. Annie Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) finished just four shots back of Kim with a 83 to finish the day tied for 60th  at +11.

Freshman Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka Ind./Penn) was just behind Gaugert as she carded a 84 to finish tied for 69th  at +12. Freshman Kiana Jongsma (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) finished the day tied for 84th place as she shot a +15 to record an 87 in her first career match.

Junior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) rounded out the Brown and Gold as she finished day one in 90th place with a +17 to shot an 89.

The Crusaders finished in 14th place with a combined team score of 333 to shoot a +45. Action at the Cardinal Classic concludes tomorrow, with an 8 a.m. CT shotgun start. Live stats will be available through BallStateSports.com.
