Crusaders Close Out IPFW Spring Classic

The Valparaiso women’s golf team closed out play at the IPFW Spring Classic on Monday with the sixth lowest 18-hole round in school history (308). The Crusaders improved by 16 strokes in the final round to finish in seventh place with a team score of 642, tying the eighth lowest 36-hole tournament in school history.

Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) improved by four strokes in the second round (76) to finish the day with a season best 156 for 36 holes. She moved up four spots to finish in a tie for 14th.

Annie Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) also improved by four strokes to end the final round with a 76, tying her season best for an 18 hole round. She ended with a 36-hole score of 160, one stroke off her season best. She finished in a tie for 23rd.

Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) finished the tournament in a tie for 29th with a season low 18 round score of 79 to give her a 162 for 36 holes, also a season low.

Kiana Jongsma (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central) finished in a tie for 38th with career lows for 18 and 36 holes. She carded a 79 on the day to bring her total score to 166.

Rounding out the scoring for Valpo was Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn), who shot an 85 to finish the tournament in a tie for 49th (172).

A.J. Selig (Hortonville, Wis./Appleton West) shot an 85 (176) to finish 54th as she competed an individual.

The Crusaders are set to co-host the IUPUI/Valpo Match Play at Purgatory Golf Course in Noblesville, Ind. on April 17 and 18. Central Connecticut State and Green Bay will complete the foursome. Full results and recaps will be posted at ValpoAthletics.com.
