The Valparaiso University women’s golf team traveled to Port Clinton, Ohio on Monday to take part in the two-day, 54-hole Rocket Classic hosted by Toledo University. The Crusaders currently sit in eighth place after shooting a 653 (+77) through two rounds.
Junior Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd) leads the way for the Crusaders, sitting at 158 (+14) with 36 holes complete. Kim’s play has tied her for 20th individually and only four strokes out of tenth position. Kim can earn another spot in the program history book tomorrow with a round of 80 or better over the final 18 holes.
Sophomore Katie Willenbrink (Mishawaka, Ind/Penn) and freshman Madison McCreary (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) both finished out Monday with a total score of 164, tying them for 38th individually with 18 holes to play. Finishing the day just three strokes back from that was freshman Kylie Shoemake (Schererville, Ind/Lake Central), shooting a 167, while rounding out the Crusaders was sophomore Kiana Jongsma (Dyer, Ind/Lake Central), who totaled a score of 175 through two rounds.
Host Toledo sits atop the standings after day one with a 26 stroke lead at 589.
The Crusaders will wrap up the Rocket Classic tomorrow morning starting at 8 a.m., with live scoring available at ValpoAthletics.com.
