Crusader Women Open Play at Whistling Straits Intercollegiate

The Valparaiso University women’s golf team opened action at the two-day, 54-hole Whistling Straits Intercollegiate from Sheboygan, Wis. on Monday, ending the day in ninth place.

The Crusaders shot rounds of 345 and 346 over the first two-thirds of the tournament, finishing the day just three shots out of seventh position. Richmond tops the team standings at 639 through two rounds.

Senior Sibil Gill (Kokomo, Ind./Western) led Valpo on Monday, posting rounds of 82 and 86 to finish the day in a tie for 19th place. Junior Angie Kim (Schaumburg, Ill./Fremd) ended the first 36 holes three shots back of Gill in a tie for 28th position, following rounds of 87 and 84.

Junior Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind./Cloverdale) shot a 36-hole total of 176 Monday, good for a tie for 35th place, while senior Annie Gaugert (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger) ended the day one shot back in joint 37th position. Freshman Madison McCreary (Batesville, Ind./Batesville) rounded out the Crusaders’ team score with a total of 179 through 36 holes to sit in a tie for 41st place entering the second day of competition.
