Mike Higdon

Head Coach

Mike Higdon was named the head men’s and women’s golf coach at Valparaiso University on February 19, 2009, the same day the announcement was made to add the sports to the intercollegiate lineup at the school.

During the fall of 2010, his women’s team posted their best tournament yet, a runner-up finish at the Green Bay Invitational.  The same event produced Valpo’s first individual tournament champion.  On the men’s side, the Crusaders routinely were finishing in the middle of the tournament standings in just the team’s second competitive fall season.

Higdon has competed at both the amateur and professional levels and has been a member of the Professional Golfers Association since 2004.  He has also served as the general manager and head golf professional at the Course at Aberdeen, the home facility for the Crusader golf teams.

He has worked in various parts of the country, including south Florida and Kentucky.  While in southern Florida, Higdon worked with some of the top golf instructors in the world as well as members of the PGA, LPGA, Nationwide, Futures, and mini-tours.  He has also had the opportunity to caddy for his mother at the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship and the U.S. Women’s Senior Amateur Championship.

Higdon is a 1997 graduate of Western Kentucky University with a degree in marketing.  He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children, Rylan, born in 2005, and Jori, born in 2007.
