King Lifts Valpo to Scrimmage Victory over DePauw

Emily King (Colona, Ill./United Township H.S.) scored three times as Valparaiso's women's soccer team concluded its exhibition portion of its schedule defeating DePauw 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in Greencastle, Ind.

King put Valpo on the scoreboard at the 29:50 mark as she deflected home a rebound from a Lindsay Holley (Waldorf, Md./Westlake H.S.) corner kick. The sophomore added another goal 1:47 later off of a free kick.

DePauw tied the match with a pair of goals in a 1:28 span early in the second half, but King put Valpo up for good at the 69:44 mark on an unassisted goal.

Allison Swanson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley H.S.) concluded the scoring with a tally at 81:40 off of an Ashley Shaneyfelt (Roswell, Ga./Roswell H.S.) corner kick.

Danielle Guerra (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) made two saves in goal for the Brown and Gold while playing the first half. Valpo outshot DePauw 16-7 for the match.

The Crusaders, which split a pair of exhibition matches, will open the regular season on Friday evening when they travel to Chicago, Ill. to battle Loyola (Ill.). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
