Northern Colorado Upends Valpo 2-1

Jessica Brennan's goal with just under 18 minutes to play in regulation lifted Northern Colorado to a 2-1 victory over Valparaiso on Friday afternoon at Eastgate Field.

The visiting Bears were quick to find the back of the net as Mallorie Price scored from 20 yards out on the left side just 7:26 into the match to give Northern Colorado an early 1-0 lead.

The Crusaders tied the match just before intermission as Emily King (Colona, Ill./United Township H.S.) tallied Valpo's first goal of the season from 12 yards out on the right side at the 40:34 mark. Lindsay Holley (Waldorf, Md./Westlake H.S.) drew the assist for the Brown and Gold.

Brennan then gave Northern Colorado (1-2) its first victory of the season scoring from in close at the 73:49 mark.

The Crusaders had opportunities during the match, outshooting the Bears 16-10 for the contest and 7-5 on net. Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) mad three stops for the Brown and Gold, while Shanna Swinehart made six saves for Northern Colorado.

Valparaiso (0-3) will search for its first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon when the Crusaders host Toledo beginning at 1 p.m. at Eastgate Field.
