Friday, October 17, 2003
Valparaiso and IUPUI tallied 110 minutes of action on Friday evening in Indianapolis, Ind., but in the end, neither team could score a goal as the two schools battled to a 0-0 double-overtime draw.

IUPUI outshot Valpo 7-5 in the first half, and 16-11 overall during regulation play, but the Crusaders got four shots off in the overtime sessions, compared with the Jaguars one. The Crusaders, though, despite being outshot 17-15 for the match, held an 8-7 advantage on goal.

Danielle Guerra (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton H.S.) notched her second straight shutout, making seven saves for the Brown and Gold, while Jessie Mann made eight stops for the Jaguars. The sophomore now has three career blankings.

Valpo had six corner kick opportunities, while IUPUI (2-10-1, 0-3-1 Mid-Con) had three chances.

The match was just the third scoreless tie in Crusader history, with the last coming in the 1999 Mid-Continent Conference Tournament semifinals against Oakland, which Valpo advanced to the finals based upon penalty kicks at the end.

Valparaiso (3-9-1, 1-1-1) will return home on Sunday afternoon as the Crusaders hosts Western Illinois in a 1 p.m. match at Eastgate Field.
