Valpo Falls at Drake

The Valparaiso University women's soccer team remains winless on the season after falling to Drake 3-1 on Sunday afternoon in the rain in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first, just 9:32 into the match, as Angela Craig took a pass from Lindsey Portincaso in the backfield and drove to the goal, finding the back of the net.

Valpo tied the match at one as Jennifer Bartels (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores H.S.) scored her first collegiate goal off of a rebound of an Ashley Shaneyfelt (Roswell, Ga./Roswell H.S.) shot at the 24:45 mark.

Drake (4-4) regained the lead in the 38th minute as Melissa Nelson scored her first of two goals off a cross from Kristin Underwood. Nelson added an insurance goal at the 48:59 mark to secure the victory for the Bulldogs.

Drake outshot Valpo 23-9 for the match, including a 12-6 advantage on net. Kristen Templin (Madison, Wis./Middleton H.S.) made nine stops for the Brown and Gold, while Kate Stack made five saves for Drake. The Bulldogs also held an advantage, 4-2, in corner kicks.

Valparaiso (0-7) will return to action on Friday when the Crusaders return home to host Bowling Green. Kick-off is set for 4:30 p.m. at Eastgate Field.
