Valpo to Host Youngstown State Wednesday in Horizon League First Round
Sarah Jewell and Valpo host Youngstown State Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Valparaiso University will host its first postseason women’s soccer match on Wednesday afternoon as the Crusaders entertain Youngstown State in the first round of the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Championship presented by U.S. Army.  Kickoff at Eastgate Field is set for 2 p.m.

Tickets, which will be available at the gate, are $5 for adults, $3 for children (17 and under) and senior citizens (65 and older), with all Horizon League student receiving free admission with valid student ID.  Gates will open at 1 p.m.

Valpo, the tournament’s eighth seed, defeated the Penguins, the tournament’s ninth seed, 2-1 at Eastgate Field during the regular season back on October 3.  The Crusaders are 10-6-2 overall and finished 2-5-1 in Horizon League play.  They have tied the school record for home wins in a season with seven, and will look to break the mark on Wednesday.

Youngstown State finished the regular season 4-13-1 overall and 0-7-1 in Horizon League play.

The winner of this first round match will head to Chicago on Sunday to face the number one seed, and regular season co-champion, Loyola in a 1 p.m. contest.
